When I initially viewed the course, I did associate action research with these words: Library, research paper, and data. But after reading parts of our texts, I now immediately think of the word reflection when thinking of action research. Reflection is what drives the educator to seek answers to a problem that he or she is facing. Reflection pushes the educator to seek out these answers but more importantly use what is found to improve what is being done. It is the actual reflection that drives the research itself.
Action research allows for educators to play a key role in the process of changing the actual process of learning/teaching. Action research is also the process that seeks ways to improve ona current process. When teachers are involved in the process and collaborate with other educators while seeking answers, it will ultimately change the ENTIRE school environment. Why? Because educators are working together towards a common goal: Improvement. As I continue on in my education career, I believe that action research can/will allow the opportunity to learn more about my strengths and weaknesses. It will also push me towards learning more ways to present topics to students, enhance professional development on my campus, and above all else improve as an educator.

ReplyDeleteYou took the words right out of my mouth. Wow! My sentiments exactly. I find that I already engage in action research. Bye Bye to the old idea of research papers without our own insights and inquiry. This is what makes us educators and brings out our passions. Action research is not just for professors and I think that this brings a new insight into what the educational profession is all about as teachers, administrators, and staff.
