Something I Will Always Remember...

This isn't my reflection on Week 2 but it was something I just had to "blog" about immediately!

I was reading Chapter 2 and started reading the section Passion 3: Individual Teacher (s). My Aha Moment is what I will call it: "Programs are never the solution and they are never the problem....It is PEOPLE, not programs, that determine the quality of a school."

I think just seeing the phrasing of this statement caused me to reflect about my district. We seem to try every program known to man. Some are successful and some are not but I think we need to focus more on the development of the teacher. We use to be required to have 21 hrs of professional development per year, I'm assuming due to budget cuts we are now only required to have 14 hrs. I know teachers who have no urgency to attend the training for a number of reasons. I can only imagine how our schools would be if the quality of the teacher improved!

  1. LaTonya, that same section was an Aha moment for me also. It's so true. I just think that if the money and time (or at least part of it) that's invested in programs could be invested into people (teachers), wow what a difference it would make! Great post girl - great post :-)!
